This is a scan of an edition of my etching "Scott and Mary Jane (or Scott loves/hearts Mary Jane)". I made this in my Printmaking I class. It's the only plate I've editioned, and we only did an edition of 5 because it was for class and we just needed to show we knew how to edition properly. I still need to finish my other plates so i can scan the prints.

It's printed from a zinc plate etched in nitric acid. The dragons are done with an etching needle in hard ground and the background/grass was created using etching needle for the outlines and filled in with aquatint (using litho crayon as stop-out).

This print (and the other four in the edition) are printed on Rives BFK Tan printing paper with a chocolatey brown ink (made with a mixture of sienna, black, and tint base extender).

The image is actually a sequel to my first plate (titled "Scott the Dragon"). That plate's not quite finished yet and I haven't scanned any of the proofs. But that plate featured only the dragon on the left and had this kind of fire and brimstone feel to it. I wanted something somewhat opposing to that so I drew Scott with his mate (dubbed Mary Jane by my sister). So yeah...dragons in love. wtf right? well...I think it's sweet.

this is all original copyrighted by me and stuff so....:-)

lol. this one and the collagraph i did (i'll have to take a pict of it) are the only ones my prof. really liked...everything else was too "kitschy main-stream japanese riff-off coloring-book" *shrugs* she said subject matter didnt' matter, so i did what i like rather than what i knew they wanted. guess i learned my lesson there. do what they want till i get my degree, then use the damn thing to do what i want.
